Six Big Ten Students On USA Softball Player of Year Watch List
Feb. 1, 2018

The Big Ten Conference is prominently featured on the 2018 USA Softball Top 50 Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, with six students from four Big Ten schools chosen on the preseason rundown that was released Wednesday.

Michigan’s Faith Canfield, Michigan State’s Lea Foerster, Minnesota’s Maddie Houlihan, Kendyl Lindaman and Danielle Parlich, and Ohio State’s Lilli Piper are on the watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which has been presented annually since 2002 to the country’s top player. Two years ago, Michigan’s Sierra Romero became the first Big Ten student to earn the prestigious honor.

The USA Softball Top 50 Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List only features upperclass students, with freshmen eligible for consideration once they have competed at the college level. The top 25 finalists (which may include students not listed on the preseason Watch List) will be named April 25, with the top 10 finalists revealed on May 9 and the three remaining contenders selected on May 23. The 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced May 29.
