Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State Earn Weekly Softball Accolades

Penn State's Cassidy Bell was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.

Sr., OF, Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty
• Hit .600 from the plate, reached base at a .647 clip and slugged 1.333 to combine for a 1.980 OPS in Penn State’s opening games of the season
• Drove in nine runs on the strength of three home runs, scored five times and was 4-for-4 on the base paths, including two steals in PSU’s first game against New Mexico State
• Had a hit in every game, with three multi-hit and multi-RBI contests – including a four-RBI contest in the Nittany Lions’ second game against New Mexico State
• Wins her second career Big Ten Player of the Week honor and first this season

Pitcher of the Week
Alex DiDomenico, Ohio State
So., RHP, Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman
• Posted a spotless earned run average last weekend, pitching 15 innings in three appearances at the Jacksonville Tournament, where she held opponents to a .130 average
• Closed the weekend with an eight-inning effort against nationally ranked Louisville, scattering just four hits while striking out three in the win
• Won the opening game of the weekend against Bethune-Cookman on Friday, striking out four, before coming on to pitch three innings of scoreless relief against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.

Freshman of the Week
Emily Lockman, Nebraska
RHP, Corona, Calif./Norco
• Pitched 17 innings over three games for the Huskers, surrendering just one earned run while picking up two wins
• Threw the first no-hitter by a Nebraska freshman since 2003 against Utah State, striking out six and walking two in six innings of work to earn her second win of the weekend
• Pitched seven innings of four-hit ball against Southern Utah in the first game of the weekend, before allowing one earned run in four innings against Purdue in the weekend finale
• Wins her first career weekly honor
