Player of the Week

Kristen Amegin, Northwestern
Sr., 3B/C, West Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove
Amegin claims Player of the Week laurels after launching three home runs and batting a team-best .500 (7-for-14) to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 record in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic last week. Amegin went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 5-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton. She then launched a solo home run against No. 8 California's two-time All-American Kristina Thorson and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to account for two of NU's three runs in the game. The West Sacramento, Calif., native sparked an 11-run outburst with a three-run homer against Central Michigan. Amegin finished the weekend with eight RBI, giving her 103 in her career, just five shy of Northwestern's all-time record. She earns her second Player of the Week accolade as she was also honored on April 26, 2004.

Pitcher of the Week
Rachel Turney, Michigan State
Sr., P, Lansing, Mich./Lansing Everett

Turney picked up tournament MVP honors at the Holiday Inn Express Pirate Classic last week after tallying 17 strikeouts, while posting a 2-0 record to open the 2006 season. She held teams to a 0.85 batting average and walked just one batter in 14.0 innings. Against host East Carolina, Turney struckout a career-best 11 batters and gave up only two hits to lead the Spartans to a 1-0 victory in the championship game. Turney claims her first Pitcher of the Week accolade and is the first MSU pitcher to earn weekly laurels since Jessica Beech was honored on March 31, 2003.
