Big Ten Names Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week Gina Mondo, Michigan State Mondo collects the first weekly honor of her career. The Orange, Conn., native led the Spartans last weekend, hitting at a .615 clip over four games. She recorded her third and fourth doubles of the season (11th and 12th of her career) and tallied eight putouts with no errors. Last MSU Player of the Week: Caitlin Mahoney (4/23/07)
Briana Hassett, Minnesota Hassett's 14-strikeout performance against Tennessee-Martin on Sunday was her third double-digit tally of the weekend and sixth of the 2007-08 season. Hasset struck out a program-record 17 on Friday against Dartmouth and 12 more on Saturday versus. Northern Iowa. The Eagan, Minn., native fanned 43 batters in 21 innings pitched, recording three complete-game shutouts last weekend at the Tennessee-Martin Hospitality House Classic. Hassett has now notched 127 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched this season and boasts a 1.23 ERA. Hassett garners back-to-back weekly honors and the second of her career.
