Michigan State, Penn State Earn Big Ten Softball Honors

Player of the Week Bracamonte wins her first Big Ten Player of the Week distinction after batting over .600 last week as Michigan State went 4-3. The junior was 11-for-18 from the dish, a .611 average, with a double, triple, four RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base as she slugged .778 in the Spartans’ seven games. Her top game of the weekend came in the front end of Saturday’s doubleheader against George Washington, when she went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a 2.000 slugging percentage. Bracamonte hit .500 or better in six of her seven games this week to improve her batting average to .383 on the season. Last Michigan State Player of the Week: Lindsey Hansen (March 2, 2009) Pitcher of the Week Hill wins her second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor after compiling a 3-1 mark over the weekend for Penn State. The senior tossed three complete games, two of which were shutouts, and struck out 31 hitters, allowing just 12 hits and nine walks through 26 innings of work for an 0.81 WHIP. Hill allowed just three earned runs in her four appearances this week for an 0.81 ERA. In appearances against Kennesaw State and Southern Illinois, Hill combined for 18 strikeouts and no runs on seven hits in complete-game victories.
