Player of the Week:
Sam Marder, Ohio State

Sam Marder helped lead the Ohio State softball team to an unblemished 5-0 record on the weekend, batting .455 with a 1.091 slugging average and .667 on-base percentage. The Buckeye junior also drove in three runs while slugging one homer, one triple and two doubles. Against Loyola, Marder doubled home teammate Dee Dee Hillman and the Buckeyes never looked back, defeating the Rabmblers, 3-1. The next day versus No. 17 Louisville, the catcher started the scoring drive for the Buckeyes who defeated the Cardinals, 3-2. In weekend matchups against Eastern Michigan, Marder went 4-for-7 and posted five of her six RBI from last week over two contests. The Calabasas, Calif., native hit safely in five of 11 at-bats and was walked seven times. Behind Marder’s offense, the Buckeyes captured their ninth consecutive win on the season, improving to 20-3 on in 2009.
Pitcher of the Week:
Nikki Nemitz, Michigan
St. Clair Shores, Mich. - Regina HS
Nikki Nemitz posted a 2-0 record and added her first save of the season owning Michigan's stellar weekend effort at the Judi Garman Classic. The Wolverine junior registered 24 strikeouts with just 11 hits and four walks allowed through 17.1 innings pitched. Nemitz fanned five against No. 16 Louisiana Lafayette, guiding U-M to a 9-1 win in six innings and ended the weekend with her most dominant performance, striking out 11 in a complete-game, two-hit shutout against perennial power, No. 12 Arizona.
