Indiana, Northwestern and Wisconsin Reel in Weekly Softball Awards

Player of the Week: Olson earns the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor of her career after leading Indiana to a doubleheader split with No. 3 Michigan on Saturday. After finishing 1-for-3 at the plate in the first game of the twin bill, Olson went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two, blasting two home runs and driving in all five of Indiana's runs in the Hoosiers' 5-4 eight-inning win. The win over the Wolverines marked the Hoosiers' first since 1996. Last Indiana Player of the Week: Rachel Terry (April 24, 2006) Co-Pitcher of the Week: Melloh turned in back-to-back complete games for Indiana in a doubleheader against No. 3 Michigan, helping the Hoosiers to their first win over the Wolverines in 15 years. The senior pitched six innings in game one, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out seven hitters in Indiana's narrow 2-1 loss. She followed by striking out 14 and allowing just one earned run over eight innings, picking up the win in the Hoosiers' 5-4 extra-inning victory. Last Indiana Pitcher of the Week: Mariangee Bogado (April 3, 2006) Jessica Smith, Northwestern Smith collects her second weekly conference honor after leading Northwestern to a 6-0 win over Loyola Chicago on Saturday. Smith threw a complete game, two-hit shutout against the Ramblers, racking up 12 strikeouts without issuing a walk in the win. The senior's strikeout total set a career high and the shutout marked her fourth this season. Last Northwestern Pitcher of the Week: Jessica Smith (March 7, 2011) Freshman of the Week: Najdek earned the first win of her career over the weekend en route to her first weekly award. The newcomer pitched an inning of relief against Loyola Chicago on Thursday, giving up two hits and a walk in the no decision. Najdek earned the win against Michigan State on Sunday, entering the game down 3-0 in the first inning before Wisconsin mounted a comeback behind her performance in the circle. The Portland, Ore., native gave up one run on five hits and struck out four over six innings in Wisconsin's 10-4 win over the Spartans.
