April 10, 2012
Entering the fourth weekend of the Big Ten softball season, the conference standings are beginning to take shape with six teams above .500 in Big Ten play. Michigan boasts the conference's best record with an 8-1 mark, one game ahead of Purdue and Nebraska, who are tied for second at 7-2. Wisconsin is in sole possession of fourth place at 6-3, while Ohio State and Iowa are tied for fifth at 5-4 in conference play. In the latest RPI report, the Big Ten is tied with the SEC for the national lead with 11 teams appearing in the top 100. In addition, Michigan appears in the top 20 of both the NFCA and USA Softball rankings, while Nebraska is receiving votes in the USA Softball poll.
Boasting the most nationally distributed softball games of any conference, the Big Ten is scheduled to have 11 contests televised or streamed to a national audience this week, part of nearly 100 scheduled softball broadcasts this season on BTN or BTN.com. On Saturday, BTN will televise the doubleheader between Wisconsin and Illinois, while the network will also televise the series finales between Nebraska-Iowa and Ohio State-Purdue.
