PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alessandra Giampaolo, Michigan
Giampaolo extended her hitting streak to a career-best 15 straight games with a 7-for-19 performance over Michigan's six-game week. The Pasadena, Calif., native belted out her first (vs. Central Michigan) and second (at Minnesota) home runs of the season and boasted a two-double performance against Bowling Green. The Wolverine captain contributed to all three runs in the nightcap at Minnesota, scoring the game winner on a Gopher error in the first inning before adding a sacrifice fly and leadoff home run. For the week, Giampaolo hit a .846 clip and had four RBI. This is her first career weekly honor.
Last Michigan Player of the Week: Samantha Findley (2/25/08)
Nikki Nemitz, Michigan
Nemitz recorded three wins over the Wolverines' weekend series at Wisconsin and Minnesota. The St. Clair Shores, Mich., native allowed just one earned run and seven hits through 13 innings pitched over the weekend. She struck out a career-best 15 batters in the first game vs. the Badgers and returned just an hour later to strike out four more in three relief innings. On Sunday, she tallied her eighth complete-game shutout of the season with a 12-strikeout two-hitter vs. the Golden Gophers. This is the second weekly honor of her career.
