Player of the Week:
Alicia Herron, Ohio State
Freshman Shortstop
Cypress, Calif. – Cypress

Alicia Herron broke the all-time Ohio State record for freshman homeruns after blasting two homers against No. 12 Northwestern on Sunday as the Buckeyes defeated the Wildcats, 10-1, in five innings. The shortstop launched a two-and three-run blasts in back-to-back at-bats, accounting for five of the Buckeyes’ runs and upping her total to 11 round-trippers on the year, surpassing the previous record of 10 achieved by then-freshmen Sam Marder in 2007 and Kristine Himes in 2000. The five-RBI effort came just a day after the Cypress, Calif., native hit a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to score the winning runs in the Buckeyes' first win in the weekend sweep over Northwestern.
