Michigan's Nikki Nemiz earns her eighth career Pitcher of the Week laurel

Amanda Chidester headlined the Wolverines’ in-state rivalry week, batting .500 with three home runs and 10 RBI in games against Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Michigan State. The Allen Park, Mich., native matched a season high with three RBI hits in the opener against the Spartans, including a second-inning solo home run. She spurred the Wolverines’ comeback victory in East Lansing the following day, using a seventh-inning grand slam to account for all four of Michigan’s runs in its 4-1 decision. This is her first career honor.

Nikki Nemitz earned three victories last week, claiming back-to-back decisions in relief against Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan before registering a solid complete-game performance in the Michigan State series finale. The Clair Shores, Mich., native struck out 10 Spartans and allowed only three hits and a pair of walks, one intentional, in Sunday’s game. The win improved her record to 19-3 on the season. Nemitz picks up her second weekly laurel of the season and eighth of her career.
