Five Big Ten softball students representing three conference schools been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). All five honorees collected first-team Academic All-District recognition, making them eligible for Academic All-America consideration, with those selections made later this month.
The Michigan State duo of Lea Foerster and Kristina Zalewski, and the Minnesota pair of Sydney Dwyer and Kendyl Lindaman joined Illinois’ Stephanie Abello in earning Academic All-District laurels. Foerster is a three-time Academic All-District selection (and was a second-team Academic All-America honoree last year), while Zalewski, Dwyer and Abello all are two-time Academic All-District choices (Zalewski was a third-team Academic All-American last year). Lindaman is the lone newcomer among the Big Ten’s softball Academic All-District selections, earning her first citation.
Three of the five Big Ten softball students to earn Academic All-District status on Thursday (Abello, Foerster and Zalewski) were selected from District 5, which covers the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Meanwhile, Dwyer and Lindaman emerged from District 6, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
