For the second time in as many days, the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan softball team exploded in the late innings against 25th-ranked Notre Dame, clinching its sixth consecutive NCAA Regional crown with a 4-0 victory on Sunday (May 17) in front of 1,344 fans at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field. Atlanta Regional - May 15-17 at Atlanta, Ga.

IOWA eliminated from NCAA Championships. The Hawkeyes end the 2009 campaign with a 42-16 overall record.

 

Columbia Regional - May 15-17 at Columbia, Mo.

ILLINOIS eliminated from NCAA Championships. The Fighting Illini end the 2009 campaign with a 29-17 overall record.

 

Louisville Regional - May 15-17 at Louisville, Ky.

Game 6: Arizona def. PURDUE, 4-2        Gametracker      Box Score

The Boilermaker softball team came up on the short end of a 4-2 score to No. 6 Arizona to wrap up the 2009 season and the team's bid for a NCAA Super Regional berth. Senior Dana Alcocer struck out five and allowed just seven hits to one of the best hitting team's in the nation, but the Purdue offense tallied just two runs on two hits in the losing effort. The No. 11-ranked and seeded Ohio State softball team advanced to the Super Regional for the first time in six trips to the NCAA Tournament after taking down Kentucky, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at New Buckeye Field in the regional round of competition. Four players - Alicia Herron, Sam Marder, Courtney Pruner and Vanessa Spears - each hit a homerun in the win, while Kim Reeder took over the top spot among all-time winningest Buckeye pitchers on both the career and season charts. A four-run explosion in the seventh inning, set off by two key hits by Boilermaker seniors, lifted the Purdue softball team to a 6-2 victory over UT Martin in an NCAA Regional elimination game on Saturday.
