Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin Share Final Weekly Softball Honors

Co-Players of the Week
Chidester claims her second consecutive Player of the Week accolade after batting .800 with four RBI and two runs scored in Michigan’s two-game sweep of Michigan State last weekend. In the opener, she drove in two runs and scored once to help the Wolverines clinch a share of the Big Ten title. In the series finale on Saturday, she was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, knocking home two runs as the Wolverines clinched the Big Ten’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Jennifer Krueger, Wisconsin
Krueger helped Wisconsin sweep Ohio State after batting .714 with three RBI and three runs scored last weekend to win her second Player of the Week honor this season. In the opener, the senior was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and tied the Wisconsin single-season record for hits. In the finale, she became the program’s single-season hits leader with 64, going 1-for-3 and driving in two as the Badgers completed the sweep.

Pitcher of the Week
Taylor threw a no-hitter in the series finale against Michigan State, giving Michigan the outright Big Ten title and the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. She allowed just one hit in 11 innings of work over two games in the series, striking out 19, including 13 in the opener on Friday. She walked just two batters last week to clinch her sixth weekly pitching honor this season. The no-hitter was the eighth of Taylor’s career, and she finished the regular season with a 29-3 record.

Freshman of the Week
Sovereign claims her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after batting .455 last week to help the Nittany Lions go 4-0 and earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field. In a midweek twinbill versus Ohio State, she was 3-for-6 with four RBI, including the game-winning sacrifice in the ninth of Game 2. In the weekend series against Northwestern, she was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored as PSU recorded its first sweep of the Wildcats in program history.
