Northwestern 4, Wright State 1 -No. 2 seed Northwestern scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to defeat Wright State, 4-1, Friday afternoon in the Wildcats' first game of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Northwestern improves to 46-11 with the win and advances to the winner's bracket game at 11 a.m. CT tomorrow, Saturday, May 19, against Illinois State. Wright State falls to 25-34 with the loss, and will face Notre Dame in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. CT tomorrow. Full Story

Michigan 3, Eastern Michigan 0 -Three solo home runs backed the one-hit pitching of senior Lorilyn Wilson (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS) as the No. 10-ranked University of Michigan softball team opened NCAA Regional play with a 3-0 shutout of Eastern Michigan on Friday (May 18) at Alumni Field. A large crowd of 1,729 was on hand for the matchup of Washtenaw County schools, with EMU making its first NCAA appearance and U-M its 16th. Full Story

Ohio State 2, Cal State Fullerton 1- The 21st-ranked Buckeyes forced two Cal State Fullerton throwing errors and scored on both plays, while senior Jamee Juarez tossed an eight strikeout two-hitter Friday night to lead Ohio State to a 2-1 win over the Titans at Buckeye Field in the Columbus Regional of the 2007 NCAA Softball Championship. A Buckeye Field record crowd of 1,175 was on hand to watch Ohio State (39-16) improve to 20-0 at home this season and advance to face 13th-ranked and the regional's No. 1 seed Virginia Tech (49-14) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Oregon 4, Penn State 0 -Penn State dropped a 4-0 decision to Oregon in the opening game of the NCAA Regional this afternoon at Beckham Field at the University of South Carolina, thanks to two homeruns off the bat of Oregon's Jennifer Salling. Kayce Zielinski (Arlington, Texas) led the Lions with a sacrifice bunt and a single. Penn State will now face the loser of tonight's game, either N.C. State or South Carolina, at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow.
