The top-seeded Michigan Wolverines advance to their fourth Women's College World Series. The Maize and Blue won their first Super Regional game 4-1 over No. 16 Washington, before falling 2-3 to force a third and decisive game. In the third game, the Wolverines unloaded to win 11-2.

After suffering a 3-2 loss in Game 2 of its best-of-three NCAA Super Regional on Saturday, May 28, the No. 1-ranked Michigan softball team bounced back later that day to run-rule Washington 11-2 in six innings in the decisive game, earning the Wolverines their fourth Women's College World Series trip in the last five years. Nicole Motycka (left), Grace Leutele and Alessandra Giampaolo all homered to lead U-M's 12-hit attack, and Motycka drove in four runs. U-M will play in Game 3 of the WCWS at 6 p.m. CDT Thursday.

Game Two: DePaul 4, No. 9 Northwestern 3
Chicago--
Northwestern fought to the end, scoring runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings Saturday afternoon at Flames Field, but DePaul survived the Wildcats' late run to win the game, 4-3, and advance to the Women's College World Series. Northwestern (42-18) closes its season with the second-best win total in school history. Only NU's 1987 team, which won 43 times, came out victorious more. The Wildcats are now 19-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

Senior Erin Mobley (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) broke Northwestern's career hits record with a 2-for-3 effort, but it was DePaul scoring the runs in a 4-0 decision over the Wildcats in the first game of NCAA Super Regional Two Friday afternoon at Flames Field.

Ann Arbor, Mich.-- In front of an Alumni Field record crowd of 2,311, the No. 1-ranked Michigan softball team downed Washington 4-1 Friday night, May 27, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional. Jennie Ritter walked the leadoff batter and then retired 19 straight Huskies before Kristen Rivera's one-out homer in the seventh spoiled the no-hit bid. The Wolverines scored all their runs in the fifth, with Alessandra Giampaolo's leadoff homer and Becky Marx's two-run single the big hits. U-M will try to for a sweep Saturday at 2 p.m

The University of Iowa softball team was defeated by the Washington Huskies, 2-0 in the final round of the NCAA Region 16 Softball Tournament. The Hawkeyes ended the 2005 campaign with a 50-14 overall record. Washington broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth. Kathy Fiske led off the inning with a single and after a Lisa Birocci strikeout, back-to-back singles allowed the Huskies to take a 1-0 lead.

After rain pushed back the game time four hours, the top-ranked Michigan softball team trounced North Carolina 6-0 Sunday, May 22, to win its NCAA Regional at Alumni Field. The Wolverines will host No. 16 seed Washington in a best-of-three Super Regional on Friday and Saturday, May 27-28. Jennie Ritter and Lorilyn Wilson combined for a one-hitter, with Ritter striking out 10 while working the first five innings. South Bend, Ind.-- Facing elimination and a Notre Dame team it had not beaten this season in two previous tries, No. 9 seed Northwestern dominated the Irish, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the NCAA Ninth Regional at Ivy Field, forcing a rematch for the right to advance to the Super Regional. Northwestern's overall record is now 41-16, while Notre Dame falls to 46-14. The win was the first of the season for the Wildcats over the Irish, who defeated NU during Saturday's Regional action and once during the regular season, both times by a single run.

After watching a 2-0 lead evaporate, Penn State (36-23) eventually fell to No. 5 Texas A&M (47-8), 9-2, at the Aggie Softball Complex Sunday in NCAA Regional action. Making their fifth NCAA appearance in six years, the Nittany Lions' recorded a 36-23 mark, the second-highest win total in Penn State softball history. A record four Lions were named to the all-Great Lakes Region team and two PSU players earned all-Big Ten recognition as well.

The victory puts the Wolverines (57-4) in Sunday's 1 p.m. championship game. Merchant gave U-M a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with her 21st homer of the season, Motycka hit a solo shot in the second, and Michigan added three runs in the fifth. Ritter (30-1) allowed three singles and struck out nine.
