Illinois' Hamma, Michigan's Motycka Capture Final Weekly Accolades For 2004

LINDSEY HAMMA, ILLINOIS Hamma sparked the Illini a to regular-season finale sweep of Iowa, helping her squad earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament. Hamma hit .571 in the two-game series (4-of-7) and also recorded a .571 on-base percentage. She was also the catalyst for the Illini defense, which did not commit an error all weekend after coming in ranked ninth in the country in fielding. Hamma went 2-for-3 in the opening game of the series, scoring a run in the narrow 2-0 decision. Motycka went 2-0 last week with a 0.50 ERA, highlighted by a complete-game shutout (1-0) of No. 2 Florida State in which she allowed just three hits and struck out 10 with no walks. After allowing a two-out single in the first against the Seminoles, Motycka set down the next 15 straight hitters before allowing a single with two outs in the sixth. Motycka also tossed a complete game in a 10-1 win over Western Michigan earlier in the week, striking out 10 without a walk. For the week, Motycka sat down 20 hitters with no walks. Her victory over Florida State upped her season record to 20-3 and made her just the fourth pitcher in Michigan history to record two 20-win seasons.
