Swimmer of the Week

Kate Zubkova, Indiana

Jr., Kharkov, Ukraine / Technology Lyceum 9

Helping her team to a 164-121 rout over Kentucky this past weekend, Zubkova earned four first-place finishes, including three as an individual.  The junior swam an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 54.74 in the 100-yard backstroke.  Her other solo first-place performances came in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley in times of 1:59.10 and 2:05.20, respectively.  Zubkova also swam a leg with the winning 200 medley relay squad that posted a time of 1:42.08.  The Ukraine native earns her second career weekly Big Ten award.

Diver of the Week

Ashley Karnes, Purdue



Jr., Bloomington, Ind. / Bloomington North

Karnes set a new pool record off the three-meter board in a home meet victory at the Indiana Intercollegiates.  Her score of 363.50 edged the previous mark of 361.05.  From the one-meter, the junior recorded a 297.80 which places her fifth all-time in program history.  Both scores exceed NCAA qualifying standards as Karnes takes home her fourth Big Ten Diver of the Week award.
