Penn State and Purdue Earn Weekly Diving Laurels

The conference office announced on Tuesday the third weekly women's swimming and diving award winners for the 2010-11 season. Penn State's Amy Modglin collects her first swimming accolade of the season, and Purdue's Erin Mertz earned the weekly diving award.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Sophomore Amy Modglin won three events against Virginia Tech last Saturday. In the 200-backstroke, she not only eclipsed the NCAA B standard, but also beat the runner-up by 6.29 seconds. The Fort Myers, Fla., native posted the top time in the 200-freestyle (1:49.71) and the 200-individual medley (2:03.60) before rounding out her performance with a second-place showing in the 500-freestyle (4:54.80).

Women's Diver of the Week
Purdue senior Erin Mertz swept both diving events to lead the Boilermakers to victory in Friday's meet against Miami (Ohio) and at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Saturday. The Omaha, Neb., native posted a 305.93 off the one-meter board and a 356.03 off the three-meter board to claim a pair of titles on Friday. While competing in the Indiana Intercollegiates, Mertz won the one-meter with a 330.15 and earned her fourth victory of the weekend on the three-meter with a mark of 296.03.
