Big Ten Announces Women's Swimming and Diving Awards

Park Ridge, Ill. - The conference office announced on Tuesday the fourth weekly women's swimming and diving award winners for the 2010-11 season. Michigan's Adrienne Bicek shares Swimmer of the Week with Wisconsin's Rebecka Palm, while Indiana's Gabby Agostino took home the weekly diving laurel.

Michigan's Adrienne Bicek helped the Wolverines defeat defending Big Ten champion Indiana, 188-182 as part of a double-dual meet with Texas. The sophomore swam in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. In the 500-yard freestyle, Bicek touched the wall in 4:48.90, good for an NCAA provisional time. In the 200-yard butterfly, the Downers Grove, Ill., native won with a time of 1:58.56, earning her second NCAA qualifying time of the weekend.

Freshman Rebecka Palm earned the first weekly award of her career after winning all four events she competed in during Wisconsin's dual with Minnesota last weekend. She posted two NCAA provisional times, in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.14) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:23.18). In her first individual event, Palm posted the best time of the season for the Badgers in the 200-yard freestyle, winning with a time of 1:49.94. The Linkoping, Sweden, native's time of 54.68 in the 100-yard butterfly earned Palm her third victory of the night.

Women's Diver of the Week
Gabby Agostino- Indiana
Jr. - South Bend, Ind. - St. Joseph

Indiana's Gabby Agostino took first in two of three events in Indiana's double-dual meet with Texas and Michigan. Agostino won her third 3-meter springboard title in as many meets this year with a season-best score of 366.10. She picked up her first win of the year on the 1-meter board with a mark of 318.85, a team-best for the Hoosiers this season. Competing on the platform, the junior took sixth with a mark of 240.40. This marks Agostino's first weekly award of her career.
