The conference office announced on Tuesday the ninth weekly women’s swimming and diving awards for meets from Nov. 30 through Dec. 6. Indiana’s Kate Fesenko and Michigan’s Stephanie O'Callaghan were tabbed Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week:
Kate Fesenko, Indiana
Sr. - Kharkov, Ukraine - Technology Lyceum 9
Indiana’s Kate Fesenko took home a pair of titles at the U.S. Short Course Nationals last weekend, posting two NCAA automatic qualifying times en route to the top of the winner’s podium. Her qualifying time of 1:52.54 in the 200 backstroke tops all collegians this season and is the second fastest in school history. The Kharkov, Ukraine, native also swam her way to an NCAA ‘A’ mark in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 52.70. Fesenko's weekend also included a season-best 53.19 in the 100 fly to highlight one of her four NCAA ‘B’ cuts, which included a top-15 finish in the 200 IM (1:59.65 in prelims) and top-10 finishes in the 400 free relay (9th), 800 free relay (4th), and 400 medley relay (9th). This is the third weekly swimming award of the season for Fesenko, who collected back-to-back laurels on Oct. 27 and Nov. 3.
