Big Ten women’s tennis begins play this weekend, with three conference teams set to compete for the first time in 2013. Indiana hosts the adidas IU Winter Invitational, while Nebraska welcomes Eastern Michigan to Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, and Illinois travels to Miami, Fla., to face the Hurricanes on Sunday.
Eight teams kick off the season the following weekend as Michigan and Purdue both host invitationals, while Iowa competes at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla., and Northwestern heads to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invite.
Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State all begin their seasons on Jan. 19. The Spartans and the Golden Gophers each host doubleheaders as Michigan State takes on Dayton and Oakland, while Minnesota faces Marquette and Montana. Penn State and Ohio State open play with dual matches, as the Buckeyes visit Morgantown, W.Va., to battle West Virginia, and the Nittany Lions host Middle Tennessee State.
Wisconsin opens its season on Jan. 26, as the Badgers travel to Durham, N.C., to face Duke.
The Big Ten dual-match season begins on Feb. 2 with Ohio State hosting Nebraska. The conference championships are set for April 25-28 at Indiana.
