Illinois' Goulet Earns Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

Cynthya Goulet, Illinois Goulet, ranked 111th in the nation, boosted her season record to 13-4 with a pair of victories over ranked singles players over the weekend. She defeated Wake Forest's 16th-ranked Karin Coetzee, 6-4, 6-3, last Friday, and got past No. 51 Sabita Maharaj of Tennessee, 6-2, 7-6, on Sunday. The Illini senior is now 4-2 against Top-100 players. In doubles, Goulet combined with sophomore Emily Wang for a pair of wins. The pair beat Katie Martzoff and Danielle Schwarz of Wake Forest, 8-3, and then came back and stunned No. 51 Ashley Robards and Maharaj of Tennessee, 8-1. Goulet and Wang are now 13-5 in doubles this season. This is Goulet's first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week selection. She is the first Illini student-athlete to earn the weekly award since her doubles partner Emily Wang on March 5, 2004.
