Northwestern's Grier Earns Fifth Player of the Week Honor

Grier led the Wildcats to a 2-1 showing at the National Indoor Championships last weekend by winning three singles matches in straight sets.  Currently ranked No. 23 in the ITA singles rankings, Grier upset No. 14 Susie Babos of California 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday.  On Friday she and freshman teammate Georgia Rose topped the No. 18-ranked duo of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk before Grier knocked off Schwenk again at  the No. 2 singles position.  In her sixth match of the weekend, Grier defeated No. 37 Natalie Frazier of Georgia to win her sixth-consecutive singles match and help the Wildcats beat the No. 6-ranked Bulldogs in shutout fashion.  The honor is the fifth of Grier's career, as she has now been honored at least once in each of her four years. Northwestern is ranked No. 8 in the latest ITA poll with a 3-1 record on the season.
