Big Ten Names Northwestern's Wowchuk Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Northwestern sophomore Brittany Wowchuk reels in her first Big Ten women's tennis Athlete of the Week award after going 4-0 against No. 71 Minnesota and No. 6 Duke over the weekend. Wowchuk and Elena Chernyakova defeated the 84th-ranked pair in the country of Alessandra Ferrazzi and Alexa Palen, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles against Minnesota. Wowchuk, ranked 66th in the country in singles, then defeated Ferrazzi, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 to help the Wildcats to a 7-0 sweep of the Golden Gophers. She and Chernyakova teamed up again to defeat the 39th-ranked pair of Mary Clayton and Monica Gorny, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point for Northwestern against Duke. The sophomore then picked up her biggest win of the weekend, a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over fourth-ranked Reka Zsilinszka, at No. 2 singles in the Wildcats' 4-3 loss to the Blue Devils.
