Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Brooke Bolender reels in her first Big Ten Athlete of the Week award after leading No. 8 Michigan to two wins at the ITA National Indoor Team Championships over the weekend. The 104th-ranked singles player in the nation, Bolender finished the event 2-0 at No. 3 singles and paired with Denise Muresan to rack up three wins at No. 1 doubles. Bolender and Muresan, ranked 22nd, picked up an 8-4 win over 70th-ranked Sasha Krupina and Elizabeth Kilborn of No. 13 Georgia Tech before Bolender took down Krupina in singles play, 6-4, 7-5, en route to a 4-1 Michigan win on Friday. The duo then defeated No. 3 Hilary Barte and Mallory Burdette, 8-3, while Bolender's match with 20th-ranked Kristie Ahn went unfinished in the Wolverines' loss to top-ranked Stanford on Saturday. Bolender and Muresan closed out the weekend with an 8-2 win over No. 2 Josipa Bek and Keri Wong of Clemson. Bolender completed her perfect weekend in singles with a 6-0, 7-5 victory against the 12th-ranked Tigers' Nelly Ciolkowski, helping Michigan earn a 4-2 win on Sunday.
