Northwestern senior Georgia Rose earns her first weekly award of the 2009 campaign after recording a pair of statement victories as the top-ranked Northwestern women’s tennis team traveled to Atlanta on Sunday to put its undefeated record on the line against fourth-ranked Georgia Tech. Rose and teammate Lauren Lui, ranked 31st nationally, began the day with an 8-2 win against the fifth-ranked tandem of Amanda McDowell and Irina Falconi, helping NU secure the doubles point for the eighth consecutive match. The 25th-ranked Rose then moved into singles where she faced the 2008 NCAA singles champion Amanda McDowell. After gutting out a 7-6 first set win, Rose dropped the second before cruising to a 6-1 win in the deciding set. She has now won five of her last six matches against ranked opponents and is 7-1 in dual competition.
