Michigan's Muresan Earns Women's Tennis Weekly Honor

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Denise Muresan picks up her second Big Ten Athlete of the Week award of 2011 after leading No. 5 Michigan to conference wins against Indiana and No. 58 Purdue. Muresan and teammate Brooke Bolender, ranked 14th in the country in doubles, opened the weekend with a win at the No. 1 spot, defeating No. 53 Leslie Hureau and Myriam Sopel, 8-4. The eighth-ranked singles player in the nation, Muresan followed with a win at No. 1, taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision over 78th-ranked Hureau en route to a 6-1 Wolverine victory against the Hoosiers. Muresan and Bolender picked up another win at No. 1 doubles against Purdue, taking down No. 25 Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt, 8-1. The senior then defeated Rabot at No. 1 singles, earning a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory to lead Michigan to a 7-0 win. With her win over Rabot, Muresan earned her 100th career victory, becoming just the third Wolverine to win 100 singles matches.
