Hala Sufi, Purdue
SO, Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills

Sufi, ranked 74th last week, won four matches over the weekend to earn Athlete of the Week honors. Purdue's No. 1 singles player beat Nicole Bouffler of Long Beach State and Lindsey Adams of Ohio State in straight sets, surrendering a total of just eight games in the two victories. Her win over Adams was the match-clincher in Purdue's 6-1 win over the Buckeyes; she also provided the clinching doubles point with Alyssa Rodriguez at No. 3 (9-8 over Messmer/Ruzimovsky). The team victory over Ohio State was the Boilermakers' first on the road this season, and first in Columbus since 1998. Two days earlier, at home against the 49ers, Sufi's win over Bouffler at No. 1 clinched the match for the Boilermakers. Sufi has now won three straight singles and three straight doubles matches, while leading Purdue to a season-best three-match win streak.

This is Sufi's third career Athlete of the Week selection and the first this season.  As a freshman, she was honored by the League on March 11 and 23, 2004.
