Freshman Rose Garners Second Player of the Week Honor
Rose picks up the second Athlete of the Week honor of her rookie campaign, the first coming just two weeks ago. Currently ranked No. 44 by the ITA, the standout freshman had a perfect week in both singles and doubles to help Northwestern remain on top of the Big Ten standings. The Wildcat topped No. 73 Christian Thompson of Notre Dame at second singles on Wednesday in a grueling match that went to tiebreaker. Along with teammate Alexis Conill, she also topped the Fighting Irish's No. 39-ranked doubles team of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft. Against Iowa, Rose was perfect against Ida Malmberg, not allowing a single point in the 6-0, 6-0 victory. Facing her second ranked singles opponent of the week, Rose made short work of Iowa's Meg Racette for an important point in Northwestern's 5-2 victory. Rose, who has a singles winning streak of 23 is just five away from tying senior All-American teammate Cristelle Grier's school record of 28 straight solo victories.
