Northwestern's Mosolova Earns Second Straight Women's Tennis Weekly Award

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Northwestern's Maria Mosolova won three singles and two doubles matches last week en route to her second consecutive Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award. Mosolova opened the week with a three-set victory over third-ranked Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame at No. 1 singles. The senior, ranked 16th nationally in singles, picked up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win against Frilling to fuel the 16th-ranked Wildcats to a 4-3 triumph over the 20th-ranked Fighting Irish. She then helped Northwestern to a 6-1 win over Iowa on Saturday after teaming with Belinda Niu to defeat the Hawkeyes' Alexis Dorr and Christina Harazin, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles and picking up a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) win over No. 101 Sonja Molnar at No. 1 singles. Mosolova and Niu earned another win at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-4 against Illinois' Amy Allin and Leigh Finnegan. She then defeated Allin, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles to lead the Wildcats to a 5-2 win over the Fighting Illini.
