Michigan Garners Final Weekly Honor of the Season

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Sugiyama finished a perfect 10-0 in Big Ten play at both No. 1 singles and doubles with wins this weekend over Ohio State and Indiana. Against the Buckeyes, Sugiyama teamed with Tania Mahtani for a 9-7 doubles win over Angela DiPastina and Christina Keesey, 9-7. The Parsippany, N.J., native later captured the clinching point with a win over DiPastina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Against the Hoosiers, Sugiyama and Mahtani capped off a doubles sweep by earning a 9-7 win over Brianna Williams and Ekaterina Zapadalova. The junior then finished her perfect conference season by defeating Alba Berdala, 7-5, 6-0. Michigan closed the regular season on a 14-match winning streak and will be seeded second in this weekend's Big Ten Championship. This is Sugiyama's fifth career weekly accolade.
