Third-seed Illinois defeated No. 6 Purdue, 4-1, in the third quarterfinal match of the 2009 Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon in Madison, Wis. The Illini improve to 18-6 overall as the Boilermakers end their tournament run with a 9-13 overall slate.
Meanwhile, second-seed Michigan downed No. 7 Wisconsin, 4-0 to advance to Saturday’s third round. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 16-5 overall as the Badgers fall to 9-15 on the season.
Up next, No. 4 Ohio State will look to halt top-seed Northwestern’s run at the Tournament title as it prepares to face the Wildcats in tomorrow’s first semifinal match, slated for a 10 a.m. (CT) start. Illinois and Michigan will square off in the afternoon contest at approximately 2 p.m. (CT) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
