The top-ranked Northwestern women’s tennis team will vie for its 11th consecutive Big Ten Tournament title against second-seeded Michigan in the final match on Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
The Wildcats enter the final match after downing Ohio State, 4-0, in the first semifinal matchup on Saturday. With the win, NU improves to 24-1 on the season and extends its winning streak against conference opponents to 76 straight matches. The Wolverines advanced with a 4-3 defeat over Illinois, improving their overall mark to 17-5.
The two teams last met on March 29 when the ‘Cats topped Michigan, 6-1, snapping the Wolverines’ 24-match home winning streak.
In last year’s championship final, Northwestern defeated Michigan, 4-0, to claim its record-breaking 10th straight conference title. The two teams have squared off in each of the last four championship contests, with the Wildcats proving victorious in all four final matches.
The Big Ten Tournament title match is slated for a Noon (CT) start time, at Wisconsin’s Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
