Purdue's Schmidt Earns Final Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award

Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Purdue's Mara Schmidt reels in the final Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor of the season after helping the No. 68 Boilermakers to back-to-back conference wins over the weekend. Schmidt and Jennifer Rabot, the 54th-ranked doubles pair in the country, defeated Penn State's Petra Januskova and Denisa Zobeideh, 8-4, at No. 1 before Schmidt downed Zobeideh at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0, en route to a 6-1 team win. The Boilermaker duo then took an 8-5 decision over Ohio State's Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs at No. 1 doubles on Sunday. Schmidt clinched the match at No. 3 singles, defeating Gabby Steele, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to help Purdue claim a 4-3 win over the No. 62 Buckeyes and earn the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
