Michigan’s Season Ends With 4-0 Loss to Tennessee in Round of 16

Big Ten Champion Michigan saw its season come to an end on Thursday afternoon in the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships. The fourth-seeded Wolverines fell to No. 13 Tennessee, 4-0, ending the year at 24-5.

The Wolverines and Lady Volunteers battled throughout a tough doubles point. After Tennessee won at No. 1, Nos. 2 and 3 both went to tiebreakers. After numerous ties and lead changes, Tennessee ultimately won at No. 2 to claim a 1-0 lead. Tennessee then rode that momentum to win the first three singles matches.

Northwestern Falls to Miami, 4-1, at NCAA Championships Round of 16

Sixth-seeded Northwestern dropped a hard-fought 4-1 contest to the Miami Hurricanes in the round of 16 at the 2010 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday. Northwestern ends its season with a 23-7 record and the distinction of Big Ten Tournament Champions.

All three doubles matches were needed to decide the match's first point as Miami took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The Hurricanes then pushed the lead to 3-0 before Northwestern's Kate Turvy got the Wildcats on the board with a win at No. 4 singles. That would be the only point of the match for NU, as Miami clinched the win at No. 2 singles.

Michigan Gets Best of Ohio State, 4-0, to Earn a Trip to Round of 16

Fourth-seeded and Big Ten Champion Michigan won its way to a spot to the national championships site with a 4-0 win over conference-foe Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines advance to the round of 16 and will begin play at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus on May 20.

Michigan needed all three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the match. With a 1-0 lead heading into singles play, the Wolverines ended the match after victories at Nos. 1, 4, and 6 singles, earning a spot in the Sweet 16.

Northwestern Defeats Nebraska 4-0, Advances to Sweet 16

The Northwestern Wildcats defeated Nebraska 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Northwestern Regional final and earned a spot in the round of 16 next week at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia.

The sixth-seeded Wildcats took a 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point, then won the first three singles matches to cement their spot in the Sweet 16. Northwestern's Linda Abu Mushrefova won the match-clinching point with a straight sets win at No. 5 singles.

Michigan Rolls to Regional Final After 4-0 Win Over Illinois-Chicago

At the Michigan Regional, the fourth-seeded Wolverines cruised to a 4-0 win over Illinois-Chicago in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon. Michigan moves on to the second round where it will face conference rival Ohio State for a trip to the Sweet 16. The match will be played at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The Wolverines made short work of the Flames, winning the doubles point and the first three singles matches to clinch the win. The match was decided at No. 2 singles, where Michgan's Whitney Taney gave the hosts a spot in the second round.

Northwestern Advances To Second Round Following 4-0 Win Against Miami (Ohio)

Sixth-seeded Northwestern made short work of the visiting RedHawks, winning 4-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Championships at the Northwestern Regional. The Wildcats move on the face Nebraska in the second round at Noon CT on Saturday.

The Wildcats opened with a strong win in the doubles point, then clinched the match by claiming the first three singles matches. Junior Maria Mosolova earned the decisive point at No. 1 singles to give the `Cats a berth into the regional finals.

Illinois Drops Tough 4-2 Decision To Nebraska

Illinois battled a tough Nebraska team, but came up short 4-2 in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Northwestern Regional on Friday afternoon. The Illini finish the season 15-10, including an 8-2 record during Big Ten play.

Illinois fell behind early 1-0 after dropping the doubles point, but battled back with wins by Rachael White at No. 3 singles and Breanne Smutko at No. 5 singles. Those would be the lone singles wins for the Illini.

Ohio State Defeats DePaul, 4-1

Ohio State moved into the second round of the 2010 NCAA Championhips after a 4-1 win over DePaul on Friday afternoon in the Michigan Regional. The Buckeyes will move on to face the winner of fourth-seeded Michigan and Illinois-Chicago.

The Buckeyes jumped to a 1-0 lead after winning the first two doubles matches, then upped the lead to 3-0 after theh first two singles matches. After DePaul cut the lead to 3-1, Ohio State's Paloma Escobedo clinched the Buckeye win at No. 2 singles.

Hawkeyes Fall to Boise State, 4-1

Iowa fell to Boise State, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Regional in the opening round of the NCAA Championships. The Hawkeyes ended the season 17-7 in coach Katie Dougherty's first season. Iowa advanced to its first NCAA Championships since 2006.

Iowa's top singles player, 67th-ranked Sonja Molnar, recorded the lone victory for the Hawkeyes at No. 1 singles, upsetting No. 49 Pichrittra Thongdath, 6-3, 7-6.

Hoosiers Drop First-Round Matchup to Vanderbilt

Indiana, making its 22nd NCAA Championships appearance, fell 4-0 to Vanderbilt in the first round of the championships at the Tennessee Regional. The Hoosiers finished the season 15-10.

The Hoosiers dropped a close doubles point, but did get a victory at No. 3 doubles as Katya Zapadalova and Charlotte Martin defeated the No.3 Commodore team of Hannah Blatt and Rachael Dillon, 8-6.
