Top-ranked Northwestern advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tennis Championships for the third time in four years after ousting No. 16 Fresno State, 4-0, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas on Friday.

With the win, the Wildcats (28-1) up their win streak to 20 consecutive dual matches, improving their NCAA slate to 23-19. Up next, Northwestern will face No. 9-ranked California (20-4) in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 5 p.m. (ET). The Golden Bears defeated No. 8 Georgia Tech, 5-0, on Friday to emerge from the Round of 16. Sunday’s match marks the second meeting between the two teams in the NCAA tournament in as many seasons. The Wildcats and the Bears last squared off in the 2008 quarterfinal round when Cal upset top-ranked Northwestern, 4-2. A win over the Bears would tie NU’s program record for dual victories in a season with 29, set last season.
