Michigan, Nebraska and Northwestern Set to Compete in Round of 16

Michigan, Nebraska and Northwestern continue play at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Friday in Urbana, Ill., for matches in the Round of 16. The 11th-seeded Wildcats take on No. 6 Miami (Fla.) at 5 p.m. ET. At 8 p.m., the 10th-seeded Wolverines match up with No. 7 UCLA and the 15th-seeded Huskers face No. 2 North Carolina.

Michigan is making its fourth straight Round of 16 appearance and fifth overall in program history. The Wolverines defeated IPFW, 4-0, in the first round of the tournament before besting Notre Dame, 4-0, in Round 2. With a win, Michigan would advance to take on either second-seeded North Carolina or 15th-seeded Nebraska in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Nebraska picked up back-to-back wins to earn a spot in the Round of 16 for the first time in program history. The Huskers defeated Wichita State 5-0, in the first round before downing UNLV, 4-1, in the second round. The winner of Nebraska and North Carolina will meet either sixth-seeded Miami or 11th-seeded Michigan in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Northwestern secured a spot in the Round of 16 for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons after wins over Illinois-Chicago (4-0) and Baylor (4-2) last weekend. The winner of Northwestern and Miami will take on either third-seeded Texas A&M or 14th-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 5 p.m.

The NCAA Championships semifinals will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, followed by the championship match on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
