With a potential national title in sight, the top-seeded Northwestern women's tennis team suffered from an unfortunate case of déjà vu, dropping a 4-2 decision to No. 8 California on Sunday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. Sunday's contest marked the second time the two teams clashed in the NCAA quarterfinals in as many years. The Golden Bears upset the Wildcats by the same margin in the 2008 edition of the NCAA Championships.

The Wildcats end the 2009 campaign with a 28-2 overall record, falling just two games shy of its bid for a national crown.

The final four teams are now set as California prepares to join No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Duke and No. 5 Notre Dame in the semifinal round.
