Northwestern’s top-seeded Maria Mosolova used a three-set victory to surge into the NCAA Championships Round of 16 on Thursday afternoon in College Station, Texas. The two-time Big Ten Athlete of the Year topped No. 35 Noemie Scharle of Florida State, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, to advance in the bracket and keep her run for the national singles crown alive.
Mosolova will take to the courts for third-round competition on Friday where she will face Duke's 30th-ranked Reka Zsilinszka in the round of 16.
Thursday afternoon marks the beginning of NCAA doubles competition with Mosolova back in action alongside Keri Robison. The NU tandem will be pitted against Michaela Kissell and Laura Vallverdu of Miami (Fla.), set to begin at 3 p.m. Also slated for action in the doubles draw is the Wildcat pairing of Lauren Lui and Georgia Rose, who are scheduled to face off against Fresno State’s Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe at 6 p.m.
