Northwestern’s No. 24-ranked tandem of Lauren Lui and Georgia Rose will march on to the second round of the 2009 NCAA doubles championship after knocking off Fresno State’s No. 15-ranked pairing of Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe, 7-6, 6-4, on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcat duo will return to the courts at G.P. Mitchell Tennis Center in Friday's second round where they will face Carolina Escamilla and Caroline Lilley of Kentucky.
Northwestern saw its second doubles pairing ousted in the first round of the national tournament as No. 29-ranked Maria Mosolova and Keri Robison fell 7-5, 7-5, to 19th-ranked Michaela Kissell and Laura Vallverdu of Miami (Fla.). The Wildcat duo ends their impressive season with an overall 25-5 ledger.
