Under a blazing sun at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, sophomore Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships by defeating Ilona Somers of Mississippi, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altinrcham England) fell to California's 12th-ranked Zsuzsanna Fodor in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Rose resumes singles play -- and begins doubles play with senior Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) -- on Thursday. Rose will be in singles action at 9 a.m. CT, while Rose and Prousis take the court in doubles at 3 p.m. CT. Wisconsin women's tennis senior Caitlin Burke (Cedarburg, Wis.) competed at the 2007 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Despite a first set that went down to the wire, Burke exited early with a 7-6 (8), 6-1 loss to Stanford's Jessica Nguyen in the opening round.
