Northwestern's Mosolova Advances to Round of 16 at NCAA Singles Championships
May 27, 2010 Northwestern's Maria Mosolova remains in the hunt for a singles championship after advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus. Mosolova defeated Katrina Tsang of North Carolina, 7-6, 7-6 and moves on to face Jana Juricova of California in Friday's round of 16. Teammate Samantha Murray saw her run in the singles draw come to an end after falling to the tournament's top seed on Thursday. She dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Georgia Tech's Irina Falconi. Three conference doubles pairs fell in the opening round on Thursday. The Northwestern team of Elena Chernyakova and Lauren Lui lost to TCU's Kayla Duncan and Katariina Tuohimaa, 7-6, 6-2, while Iowa's team of Merel Beelen and Sonja Molnar were defeated by Georgia's Nadja Gilchrist and Chelsey Gullickson, 6-2, 6-2. In one of the final matches of the day, Michigan's Whitney Taney and and Rika Tatsuno were defeated by Florida's Marrit Boonstra and Allie Will, 6-3, 6-4.
