Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Elizabeth Yetzer, Minnesota
So., Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville

Yetzer pulled double duty at the Bulls Invitational this past weekend by claiming two event wins.  Her 1,500-meter time of 4:25.35 qualifies her for the NCAA Midwest Regional in May.  The sophomore also posted a top notch 800 time, winning the two lapper in 2:10.77.  The Gophers pick up action again at the Stanford Invitational on April 3. Yetzer garners her first career weekly honor.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Kari Schmidt, Minnesota
Sr., Lindstrom, Minn. / Lake Chisago

Schmidt shined at the Bulls Invitational in Tampa Fl., this past weekend by launching the ninth-best hammer throw in school history.  Her winning toss of 173-4 (52.83m.) set a new personal best.  The senior also placed second in the shot put with a heave of 47-11 (14.60m.).  Schmidt takes home her second career Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week award.
