The Big Ten Conference office announced on Wednesday the first weekly women’s outdoor track and field awards for meets through March 24-31. Indiana’s Caitlin Engel earned the nod as Track Athlete of the Week while Chavon Robinson of Wisconsin collected the weekly field laurel. 

Track Athlete of the Week:
Caitlin Engel, Indiana

Indiana sophomore Caitlin Engel claimed top honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Hoosiers traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to open their outdoor campaign at the Alabama Relays on Saturday. The product of Indiana was the first to break the tape in a time of 10:46.67. The mark is the fourth fastest in IU history and the 18th-best in Division I this season. Engel closed out the weekend by contributing to Indiana’s runner-up finish in the 4x1,500-meter relay with a time of 19:16.70. This is the first Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award for Engel’s career.

Field Athlete of the Week:
Chavon Robinson, Wisconsin

Wisconsin senior Chavon Robinson opened her outdoor season without missing a beat from her All-America season indoors, sweeping the long jump and triple jump titles at the Florida State Relays. Her winning mark in the triple jump bettered the competition by more than 16 inches and ranks second in the nation at 42 feet, 6 inches (12.95m). That performance came a day after Robinson won the long jump by nearly a foot with her leap of 19 feet, 8 3/4 inches (6.01m), a mark that ties her for 16th nationally.
