The Big Ten Conference office announced on Wednesday the second weekly women’s outdoor track and field awards for meets through March 24-31. Penn State’s Shavon Greaves and Illinois Aja Evans were named Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, after leaving their mark on the national leaderbaord last week.

Track Athlete of the Week:
Shavon Greaves, Penn State
Jr. - Lakewood, N.J. - Lakewood

Shavon Greaves notched the highest Nittany Lion finish at the Florida Relays, earning a pair of runner-up finishes over the weekend. The junior collected second-place honors in the 100-meters with a time of 11.33 (+3.1w) while bettering U.S. elites Natasha Hastings of Nike, and Rachelle Boone-Smith of World Express AC. The Lakewood, N.J., native then sprinted to a career-low 23.07 in the 200-meters, notching the second-fastest performance in Penn State history and the second-best time in the NCAA this year. This is the first weekly outdoor laurel for Greaves’ collegiate career.

Last Penn State Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Bridget Franek (April 15, 2009)

Field Athlete of the Week:
Aja Evans, Illinois
Sr. - Chicago, Ill. - Morgan Park

Senior Aja Evans posted the best outdoor opener of her collegiate career, winning the shot put crown with a mark of 55-5 (16.89m) despite inclement conditions at the Mike Poehlein Invitational on Saturday. Her mark ranks third-best in the country and is just shy of her own school record in the event. The selection marks the fourth Big Ten Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award for Evans’ career and the first this season.
