Pair of Seniors Post Nation's Best Marks

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Tiffany Ofili, Michigan At the Texas Relays this past weekend, Ofili blazed the 100-meter hurdle straightaway in a season-best time of 12.88, ranking her No. 1 nationally so far this year. The two-time NCAA outdoor hurdles champion smashed the regional qualifying standard of 13.92 by over one second to qualify for the Mideast regional on May 29-30. The senior also ran the opening leg of Michigan’s sprint medley relay squad as they tallied a fourth-place finish. Ofili garners her second career Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award. Last Michigan Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Amber Hay (5/13/08) Women’s Field Athlete of the Week Liz Roehrig, Minnesota Roehrig automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon this past weekend at the Jim Click Shootout, posting the country’s best score of 5,857. Her winning total sets a new school record as she posted career-best marks in the 100-meter hurdles and the shot put. Roehrig was one of three Big Ten student-athletes to automatically qualify for the national meet this weekend, including Michigan’s Bettie Wade (5,635) and Penn State’s Gayle Hunter (5,564).
