Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Bridget Franek, Penn State
Jr., Hiram, Ohio / Crestwood

Franek bettered the 3,000-meter steeplechase field by nearly 40 seconds, claiming top honors at the Bison Outdoor Classic this past weekend.  Her new school record performance of 9:53.7 registers as the No. 1 time in the world so far in 2009 as well as the NCAA and the Big Ten.  In setting a new personal-best mark, the junior exceeded the regionally qualifying standard by nearly one minute.  Franek is honored with her second all-time Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor.
