Michigan and Wisconsin Student-Athletes Garner Weekly Accolades

Track Athlete of the Week: Michigan earns its second weekly award after Jillian Smith finished first in the 1,500-meter run last weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic on the University of Florida campus. Smith's winning time of 4:14.65 is currently the fifth-fastest time in the country this season and leads the conference in the event. Her mark is also the best time for a second-year runner in program history. Smith collects the first weekly award of her career and Michigan's first weekly track award since the 2009 season. Last Michigan Track Athlete of the Week: Geena Gall (Feb. 9, 2009) Field Athlete of the Week: In her first heptathlon of the outdoor season, Wisconsin's Jessica Flax posted a score of 5,353 last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. Flax moved to the top of the Big Ten after finishing seventh overall in the competition. The junior improved her standing to fourth on the Badgers' all-time list in the event and No. 13 in the country so far this season.
