Michigan and Purdue Earn Weekly Awards

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Tiffany Ofili, Michigan Ofili took home gold in the 100-meter hurdles special invitational at the Drake Relays this past weekend. The senior was the only collegiate athlete in the event as she lined up against seven professionals, including Olympians and former World Champions. Her winning time of 12.82 stands as the top time in the NCAA and the third fastest time in the world this season. The All-American collects her third career weekly outdoor award. Emily Pendleton, Michigan Pendleton claimed top honors in the University Division of the discus at the Drake Relays with a leading toss of 179-3 (54.64m.). The sophomore’s mark won the event by more than two meters and serves as the fourth-best throw in the NCAA and the No. 1 heave in the Big Ten this season. The Lindsay, Ohio, native captures her first career weekly conference award. Last Michigan Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week: Elizabeth Boyle (5/10/04) Kara Patterson, Purdue Patterson topped an elite national field, including five U.S. Olympic Trials participants, at the Drake Relays on Friday to win the javelin throw. The senior’s top mark of 177-09 (54.18m.) was almost three meters better than the second-place competitor and ranks as one of the top five throws of the year among collegiate competition. Patterson holds the NCAA’s top throw this season at 191-8 (58.41m.) which she recorded on March 28. Patterson is awarded her fifth career weekly laurel.
